Abstract

One of the government's strategies to enhance ICT access is via Medan Info Desa (MID), especially among the youth who live further inland. This study aimed to analyze the factors of acceptance and the use of ICT among aboriginal youth in post Sinderut, Kuala Lipis, Pahang. A total of 433 (M = 208, F = 225) aboriginal youths were selected as respondents. Quantitative research methods using questionnaires was used as a measuring tool in the process of gathering information. Data were analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistics such as t-test and ANOVA. The findings show that about 64 per cent of respondents did not know or less adept at using mobile phones compared to 89 per cent of respondents did not know or less adept at using computers because they do not have the equipment. However, respondents' perceptions of the importance of Information Technology in their lives is very high. About 76 percent of respondents are interested in training computer if available. One-way ANOVA analysis showed significant mean difference was significant (P = 0.01 <0.05) related to the perception of the importance of the use of Information Technology by the youth age category. Post hoc tests revealed that aboriginal youth aged between 15-19 years have a higher perception of the importance of Information Technology in their daily lives than other age groups of youth. Lack of basic facilities, particularly electricity, many youths still do not know how to read and write, and the low level of knowledge regarding ICT is a factor why the provision of infrastructure facilities equipped telecenter Information and Communication Technologies are not developed according to the area.
